Bahla is truly a huge fortress, well restored and rightfully inscribed on the UNESCO list. It stands on a small hill next to the historic and now neglected old town of Bahla. As with other Omani castles, you can move freely and explore the individual towers and rooms.

Front view of the Bahla

The city of Bahla is basically just a large development around the road number 21. The fortress is located next to the road and there is a large parking lot. In the early evening, the fortress is beautifully lit by the late sun, unfortunately it is already closed at this time. So it pays to walk around at least the surrounding old town and wait for the next day.

Courtyard of Bahla Castle

The interior of the castle is really large and practically without shadow, so before you see everything here, you will enjoy the Omani sun to the full.

View of the old town

The castle has a perfect view in all directions. Next door is the remains of the old town. Unlike beautifully restored castles, old houses are almost everywhere on the verge of destruction

South view

To the south of the city you can see the monumental gate – Bahla gate, where it is also worth stopping at least for a while

View of Djebel Shams

If you are lucky that the haze will not be too great, you will see the highest mountain in Oman, Djebel Shams, on the northern horizon.

A corner of Bahla Castle

An hour will not be enough for you to walk through the whole castle.

View of the inner fortress

In Bahle there is actually an outer castle, then the inner and even the strongest part of the inner castle

Finding the highest prospect

Finding the highest accessible place of the castle is quite a long time trial and error. Here you will find typical ladders leading to the tallest towers.
