Area Čáslav

Čáslav is a small town located about 10 km southeast of Kutná Hora. It was founded in 1264 and the city center has retained its ancient character, and therefore the historic core of the city was declared a city monument zone. The town is strongly connected with the Hussite movement and the figure of Jan Žižka. According to old annals, after his death, Jan Žižka's body was first stored in Hradec Králové and then secretly transported to Čáslav. At the end of 1910, in a walled niche in the church of St. Peter and Paul's bones and part of the skull with an obvious scar above the left orbit. According to research, these are probably the remains of Jan Žižka. The most famous local native is Oscar-winning director Miloš Forman.
