The Great Synagogue in Budapest, also known as the Dohány Street Synagogue, is a monumental building built between 1854 and 1859 in the Moorish-Spanish style according to the plans of the Viennese architect Ludwig Förster. It is the largest synagogue in Europe and the fourth largest in the world. It is 53.5 m long and 26.5 m wide and can accommodate a total of 2964 seated believers, 1492 men and 1472 women in galleries. Behind the synagogue is a Holocaust memorial in the form of a metal willow.
