Lake Rotorua is the second largest lake on the North Island. Of interest are the sulfur fumaroles at the southern end of the lake near the town of Rotorua. You can enjoy the best atmosphere here early in the morning, when the smell of fumarole is the strongest. The small island Mokoia is located in the middle of the lake . The lake is a remnant of the collapse of a huge volcano.
