All about Chavin culture
Most people making a day trip from Huaraz to Chavin de Hunatar to see the remnants of this ancient civilization does not miss a visit to this small but interesting museum representing the local culture from the Stone Age up to the Chavin civilization. The museum is housed in a modern interesting building just a short walk from the historic ruins.
Model of Chavin
An interesting exhibit is a model of the whole site that will make you an idea of how it looked here in the times of the biggest glory.
Obelisk
The most valuable and interesting exhibits are ancient obelisks. The most famous of these is Obelisco Tello.
Gargoyles
Very interesting are also the gargoyles in the form of elaborate head.
Stone slabs with engravings
The museum tour is not long, but definitely worth a visit, so that you have at least a bit of an idea how this place once looked like.
