In the Natural Park del Estrecho you will find the beautiful beach of Bolonia, the adjacent dune and several ruins of the Roman city of Baelo Claudia. So in one day you can swim, take a short hike and walk through the ancient Roman ruins. In addition, it is a place outside the main tourist circuits of Andalusia

Road to Bologna

From the main road N340 leading from Tarifa to Conil de la Frontera and continue to El Lentiscal (after 14km from Tarifa). Following this narrow dead end road, it is about seven kilometers to the sea. A smaller mountain pass awaits you, about 200 meters above sea level and the surrounding landscape similar to Ireland rather than Spain

Mountains behind the beach

Thanks to the nature park and the remains of Roman monuments, the western part of the beach is without any construction, which is great. The surrounding limestone mountains are also worth a look.

Duna Bologna

In addition to swimming, you can go to the local attraction – a tens of meters high dune

Ascent to the dune

The local dune has engulfed a number of trees, sometimes you see a piece of tree crown protruding somewhere. It's quite an interesting mini desert.

View from the dune

However, the tiring climb on the sand is worth it. From the dune you can see the whole bay of Bolonia and the small mountain range Loma de San Barolomé behind it. From this mountain there could be a great view of the surroundings
