Once one of the most important cities in Nepal and the center of the kingdom – Gorkha (1,084 m above sea level), located in the foothills of the mighty 8,000-meter Manaslu, is now almost forgotten for tourists. After the capital moved to Kathmandu, its era of power ended, but at least tourists went here on a trek around Manaslu. After completing the road to Arugat Bazar, however, they start from this much more practical place. If you still take a trip here, you can see several historic royal buildings, take a hike to the temple on a mountain ridge and in good conditions enjoy the view of the Manaslu ridge rising on the horizon.

Life in the town of Gorkha

Today, Gorkha is really just a provincial town. The shops here are colorful, especially before religious holidays.

View of the Manaslu massif

From Gorkha there is a famous view of the Manaslu massif. However, it is fifty kilometers as the crow flies, so it depends a lot on weather conditions. Quite often it is hidden behind the haze.
