A trip to the southernmost city in Europe
Tarifa is the southernmost place in mainland Europe, so it is a popular destination for collectors of various geographical best. In addition, there is a nice beach and three fortresses. However, due to its location between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, it is very windy here, which is only confirmed by the hundreds of wind turbines on the surrounding hills. There is a nice view of Africa from Tarifa, which is only fourteen kilometers away. The southernmost part itself is on the island of Isla de las Palomas connected to the mainland by an artificial neck. The island is unfortunately a military area, so access is not allowed there. Migrants are currently gathering there
Tarifa Castle - Castillo Guzmán el Bueno
The most important monument in Tarifa is a huge castle called the Spanish castillo Guzmán el Bueno. A massive advanced tower is typical here. In the area of the castle there is a picturesque garden in the Arabic style – Acequia Árabe

The castle stands on the edge of the old center of Tarifa, which is also worth a short walk. You will also find the pretty Mayor de San Mateo church here

The second castle in Tarifa is the small Castillo de Santa Catalina. Below it are bunkers protecting the road leading to the island of Palomas
Tarifa beach
To the west of Tarifa stretches a few kilometers of sandy beach. Another local attraction can be seen on the horizon – the sand dune at Punta Paloma
