Road with amazing views
Every lover of beautiful mountain sceneries and also those who like swimming will be pleased by the road connecting Marmaris with Kumlubük. Along the way, it is possible to swim at four different locations. It is surprising that it leads mainly along the coast and it crosses mountain pass at an altitude of 400 meters above sea level. This trip can take two hours or the whole day, depending on your approach.
The outlook of İçmeler
After going through the busy main street in Marmaris the road continues for another 7 km on a good-quality asphalt road to the neighboring town of Icmeler. You can make the first stop and have a bath here, but it is better to go on and see Icmeler during a walk along the seafront promenade (another trip).
Just behind the town the road begins to rise in twists to mountain ridge with beautiful views of the town far below. But it's better to take pictures late in the afternoon than in the morning.
The outlook of Turunc
After passing six switchbacks up from Icmeler followed by a short ride on the upland plain where is crossroad. It is possible to turn on the way to the interior of the peninsula Bozburun, which is another nice trip to or near Marmaris offers.
However, we continue on and soon to open beautiful panorama of the whole cove that surrounds Turunc. Downhill drive to the sea is even steeper – there are altogether eight sharp curves.
View to Turunc from the south
After passing down the winding road to Turunc there is pleasant opportunity to have a rest at the local beach with beautiful view of the surrounding mountains.
After a short rest the trip continues. However, in the south of Turunc the road again rises and there is a nice view of the town from the „other“ side.
Ships heading for Turunc
Right from the first outlook behind Turunc there is a nice view of the surrounding mountains towering directly from the sea and robust shipping transportation linking various towns on the coast.
Open sea
From the outlook you can see Marmaris hidden in the distance. Cruise ships also occasionally stop here for a swim break.
View of Amos bay
100 meters above sea level just before the road turns right to go around Amos bay, there is even better view of the surrounding landscape than in the previous stop. Although it is necessary to climb a little through the local limestone rocks among goat droppings, but the view is worth it.
Cove and beach Amos
Beautiful blue sea and small beach – Amos bay can be your swim stop number three on this trip.
Remote view of Turunc
From the outlook you can surprisingly see also a half of the cove in Turunc.
Above Amos beach
After 400 meters from the outlook you can turn to the village above the beach Amos, drive down to the mini port and have a bathe here. The road otherwise continues to the last lookout headland, where is also an educational board about local ancient settlement. If you want to, you can explore this hill with the remains of ancient buildings or alternatively walk down along the path to the bay.
From there the road leads down to the last stop on this trip to the cove Kumlubük. You can go back the same way or on a small road through the interior of Bozburun peninsula.
