Or flights are not just sightseeing
This year I had a unique opportunity to work on the organization of reconnaissance flights on the bark beetle in the Central Bohemian Region. Reconnaissance flights are organized annually in each region for forest owners who are interested in inspecting their property from above. Reconsonation flights help to find already abandoned (dry) bark beetle trees and thus determine the expected speed and direction of bark beetle spread in the stand.
Towards Jesenice
After taking off from Rakovník airport, we headed towards the village of Jesenice. Here we got a view of the adjacent ponds Horní and Dolní Fikač, which are separated by a dam with a unique tree line included among the protected memorial trees of the Czech Republic.
Jesenice ponds
We passed Jesenice and we can see another of the ponds adjacent to this village. This is a large pond whose 35 dam oaks belong, as in the previous two ponds, to the memorable trees. The pond is used for swimming and fishing. There is a gradual entry into the water.
Berounka
We turn in the opposite direction and fly along the river Berounka to Křivoklátsko.
Křivoklát Castle
We turn away from Berounka, through Krakovec and below us rises the royal castle Křivoklát majestically.
Back at Berounka
Once again, we pass the Berounka River together with the villages of Zbečno and Újezdec nad Zbečnem.
Klíčava Reservoir
We turn again, this time towards Nová Strašecí and below us lies the Lánská game reserve, which also includes the Klíčava reservoir, which serves as a drinking water reservoir for Kladno and its surroundings.
Lánská game reserve
We pass the presidential field Lány, which is the third largest field in the Czech Republic. European deer, Japanese sika deer, Dybowski's sika deer, European fallow deer, mouflon and wild boar are bred here. The park is inaccessible to the public except for the viewing platform.
New Strašecí
We pass the Pilský pond and the village of Ruda near Nový Strašecí and return to Rakovník.
Křivoklát forests
The extensive complex of Křivoklát forests, largely composed of mixed stands, is impressive.
Bark beetle
If anyone is interested in the significance of these reconnaissance flights, they are so considerable. Dead lands are much better seen from a height, and it gives us, as foresters, a better perspective to be able to determine the intensity of the attack and predict the spread.
Rakovník
We're going back to the airport. The town of Rakovník also has a lot to offer. The local square is a city monument zone, in addition, there is the TG Masaryk Museum, Jewish monuments and the Bakalář brewery.
