The classicist castle is actually a pheasant house
On the northern outskirts of the town of Valtice, on Liščí vršek, stands the newly reconstructed building of the Belveder summer house. The Empire-style building from 1806 is surrounded by a forest park and was originally intended to serve as the center of a pheasant farm. The area consists of the main summerhouse building and two side buildings.
Interesting interior
In the interior, there is an octagonal hall and an entrance hall in the central part, the rooms are distributed symmetrically on the sides. The central hall, originally furnished as a Chinese pavilion, once exhibited rare silk Chinese tapestries. The building has two floors, a circular staircase leads to the floor.
Expensive reconstruction
After 1945, the building was expropriated by the Lichtensteins and gradually neglected and devastated by various owners. Since 2000, the building has been gradually completely reconstructed by the National Monument Institute and opened to the public in June 2021.
Advantageous position
The structure in the form of a classicist empire castle was built on a small hill in 1802–06 and was intended both to represent the then princely family and for economic purposes. It was used for breeding and hunting pheasants and peacocks in the adjacent nature park. The place was chosen for a nice view across the Nesyt pond to Mikulov.
