Babele is the most popular tourist destination in the Bucegi Mountains mainly for its magnificent views and the specific rock formations that gave the area its name.

Hooray for the cable car

Our journey begins in the town of Bușteni, from where it is possible to take the cable car to Babele. After waiting for the queue, a snack and one feeding of a stray dog, it was our turn. We were told that the actual trip by cable car is an experience, which was confirmed when we saw the elderly cable car.

Babelská sphinx

After surviving the cable car in good health, we can begin to enjoy the beauty of the plateau. The first steps lead to rock formations.

Babel sponges

We cannot omit the formation that gave the whole area its name, that is, rock sponges. All local rock formations are the result of natural erosion.

High plateau

We set off along the blue for a small circuit around the area, to the Caraiman cottage. Along the way we have beautiful views of the plateau and the approaching clouds.

Meeting

Despite the huge queues for the cable car and thus the adequate influx of people, we go alone. There is such peace that we meet a chamois who stays with us for a few minutes and then leaves.

Romanian road

Although we follow the blue, the marks are the same red everywhere. The journey begins to take the form of typical Romanian routes. However, according to the available information, this is one of the better ones. We continue further into the clouds.

Caraiman

The cloud suddenly rises and we see the destination of our journey. The Cross of Heroes, below the Caraiman peak, measures 36 meters and is a state symbol visible from afar.

Valley view

From the cross is a beautiful view of the valley. The Bucegi Massif rises imposingly like a wall. Below us is the town of Bușteni from where we left.

Rock walls

We think about where to go next and our goal is Co vrchtila hill with a transmitter.

Flora

We love beautiful flowers all the time. Among the best discoveries from the world of flora was the finding of Edelweiss.

Coștila

We are approaching Mount Coștila. Again, we go completely alone in the clouds. Occasionally there is a crack with a bit of sunshine. There is such silence that we hear the noise of the wings of birds flying over us.

Cottage Omu

The more able of us went a longer route to the Omu hut, which we only see after a while, when the clouds allow. The weather is getting worse, it's time to start going back to the cable car.

The town of Bușteni

It's not raining back in the city yet, so we explore the local beauty. Bușteni, like any good Romanian city, has its own monastery, which can be visited, but there is a ban on photography. The rain has reached the valley, it's time to try the local patisserie.
