On the west coast of the North Island is the second oldest national park in New Zealand. Its distinctive dominant feature is the sleeping volcano Mount Taranaki (sometimes called Mount Egmont), whose shape is reminiscent of the famous Japanese volcano Fuji. The volcanic cone is surrounded by a fairy-tale forest and paths interwoven in a nearly regular circle, which, thanks to its greenery and the shape of its trees, is known as the „goblin forest“.
