Kočkor (1,810 m above sea level) is a dusty town with approximately ten thousand inhabitants. It lies on the important A365 road connecting Bishkek with China via the Torugart Pass. Here you will find a classic statue of Lenin and a small mosque. It is interesting for tourists mainly because from here you can take two interesting trips – to Lake Sonkol and a trek to the mountain lakes Köl Ükök and Köl Tör. Directly from the city there are nice views of the surrounding mountains.
