It is the largest castle in Slovakia. Since 1993 it has been listed at UNESCO. It is located about 1.5 km east of Spišské Podhradí. Construction commenced during the 12th century. In 1241, as one of the few castles, he resisted the Tatar invaders. After this act the castle received further modifications to strengthen the fortifications. Today it is the largest castle ruin in Central Europe.
