The city of Lecce is often nicknamed Florence of southern Italy due to its many Baroque monuments. In the center of the city is Piazza Oronzo with a beautiful bronze clock. Part of this square are the remains of a Roman amphitheater. Nearby is the massive castle of Castello di Lecce. Other important sights include the Roman Theater, the Temple of Santa Croce and the Duomo of San Oronzo, towering over Piazza Duomo.
