Jökulsárlón is the largest lagoon of its kind in Iceland. It was created by the melting of the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier. The lagoon is only 76 years old. It is filled by ice floes that have loosened from the front of the glacier. The kilometer-long river Jökulsár, the shortest river in Iceland, flows out of it.
