In the southwestern part of the Reykjanes peninsula lies the geothermal area Gunnuhver, with a number of mud volcanoes – mofet and fumarole. The uniqueness of the space is multiplied by the noise of boiling water, the force of escaping steam and the pungent smell of sulfur. The uniqueness of this area also lies in the fact that the groundwater here is 100% seawater, which is nowhere else on the island. The steam temperature here can reach up to 300 ° C.
