Reykjanes is a peninsula in southwest Iceland, a few km from Reykjavik. It is washed from the north by the waters of Faxaflói Bay, and from the west and south by the Atlantic Ocean. It is 50 km long and 20 km wide. There are several fishing towns on the peninsula, as well as Keflavík International Airport and the former American base. Reykjanes is only sparsely covered with vegetation, which is caused by strong volcanic activity.
