Article Visit of Skardu

Skardu looks at first glance like any other Pakistani district town. Shops and bustle is stretched around one main road „Main Bazaar“. Far more interesting than the town are its beautiful surroundings.

The unwritten town center is the roundabout, near which are a lot of various shops. The most common expedition vehicles are here old Toyotas practically without any electronics and thus reliable and easy to maintain.

An interesting monument is situated near the polo and soccer pitch at the eastern end of the town. If you are lucky and it is under water, you can take a nice reflecting photo. This place is also a good point of orientation because from here starts the trip to the local fortress Kharpocho.

Rocky ridges over Skardu are the most beautiful at sunset, when they turn red.

River Hargisa flows from the Deosai plains (third river flowing near Skardu). This river forms basically the western border of the town. It is marked on all maps only as a small stream, but it is quite difficult to ford at the beginning of the summer. Its surrounding area is very picturesque and is accessible directly from the Main Bazar.
