Conveniently on foot or by bike through the most valuable part of Brd
A pair of large ponds in the intact landscape of the Brdy Protected Landscape Area became a very popular destination after the opening of the space cleared by soldiers in January 2016. The ponds and their beautiful surroundings are definitely worth a visit. Thanks to the extensive network of paved paths, it is ideal for both pedestrians and cyclists. Everyone can prepare a route here according to their needs and ideas.
From Nepomuk uphill
A very suitable starting point is the village of Nepomuk. There are two relatively large parking lots and a stall with refreshments. From here there are several options where to go by bike or on foot on good roads.
Keep going!
In a large part of the central Brdy, after the evacuation of the area, the soldiers had to carry out a pyrotechnic cleaning of the area from unexploded military ammunition. The cleaned areas are open to the public by newly marked walking and cycling routes. Nevertheless, some areas have not been thoroughly cleaned and therefore entry is prohibited.
Meteorological radar
Near the second highest peak of Brdy, Prague, stands the 60 m high tower of the CHMI meteorological radar (one of the two in the Czech Republic), which monitors precipitation clouds over a large part of the Czech Republic. In addition, a television transmitter, signal converter and other equipment are installed on the tower. From the gallery of the tower at a height of 916 m above sea level there is a beautiful circular view of the Šumava Mountains, the Ore Mountains and the Giant Mountains
Prague Hill (862 m above sea level)
Prague is the second highest peak in Brdy, right after the top of Tok. Despite its height, the hill in the Brdy Protected Landscape Area itself does not have a very significant effect, perhaps that is why it was named after the time of the national revival.
Former German beacon
For II. During World War II, the Germans built a homing beacon for their air force here. The remains of the building are located in close proximity to the yellow tourist sign. The ruins are located on the edge of the slope, from which there is a beautiful distant view to the west, so the signal spread well in the desired direction of attack.
View of the former radio beacon
Definitely worth taking a few steps from the ruins to the lookout, which in good weather offers a very nice view of the countryside.
Plain under the ponds
To the northeast of Dolejší rybník there is one of the largest plains in Brdy, the landscape is more varied and there is a pleasant view. The path leading to the ponds from the crossroads of „Přední Záběhlá“ leads through a romantic mature alley.
Padrť ponds
Padrťské ponds are located at an altitude of 630 m above sea level and are the highest economic ponds in Central Bohemia. Due to its location, they are one of the cleanest ponds in our country. The need to power mills and watermills attracted people to the local water sources. In order to secure enough water, they established the Padrť ponds in the middle of the 16th century. They built a whole system of water reservoirs and drives around them. Under the dam of Dolejší rybník, they then founded the settlement of Padrť, which became an ironworks center. In 1753, a blast furnace was already smoking here and five hammers were pounding. In addition to iron processing, the livelihoods of the inhabitants also depended on fields and orchards and the production of charcoal. The village of Padrť, together with a number of other local settlements, was destroyed after the creation of a military district in 1952.
Lower Padrť pond
This pond has an area of 65 ha and is fed by an outlet from Hořejší rybník. Around this pond there are peat bogs and extensive meadows. Below the dam are four smaller ponds, which in the past were used to drive mills and sawmills.
Wet meadows, ponds and wetlands
The ponds are fed by water from the upper course of the river Klabava, which springs on the slopes of the hill Prague.
Upper Padrť pond
The upper pond is larger than the lower one, has 115 ha, but is relatively shallow. It is fed by a number of small forest tributaries and is completely surrounded by beautiful and extensive forests. On the west side of the dam is a shelter with seating.
Paved forest roads
In the deep forests south of the ponds, there are many ways to return to Nepomuk or continue to Třemšín. Many roads have been built by soldiers „as if they were shooting“, so they are completely straight and lead along a pleasant paved surface.
