Because Franz Joseph is a very accessible and attractive ferrata of difficulty D, I recommend starting it very early in the morning. Also because its ascent can take up to 4 hours and the sun shines on it all day. The combination with the Rosslochhöhlen ferrata is very advantageous, but it is only for real gourmets and perseverers.

Kaiser Franz Joseph Klettersteig

D, 860 height meters, about 4 hours of climbing, 2 h descent

The starting point is Lake Leopoldsteinersee, just outside Eisenerz. Access to the ferrate itself is a matter of half an hour and is marked. Even after the first meters of climbing, it is clear that it will not be free, so those who feel exhausted after the first section should turn to the emergency escape. The fence is divided into 10 sections and the possibility of an emergency descent is located right after the first passage. It is followed by a long section of vertical passages.

Decision

it's time to decide whether to continue and try Rosslochhöhlen Klettersteig with D / E difficulty, but when else will we get here again? Described in a separate article.

Descent

About 2 hours the descent is endless, rubble and sometimes very steep, for me personally more demanding than a ferrata :)

Water saves us

Because it was unbelievably hot all day, I don't hesitate for a moment to jump into the cold lake. Despite the onlookers and maybe out of my underwear slightly uncomfortable retirees :)
