Gondogoro trek 4: People almost do not want to leave from the camp of Urdukas (4 050m asl.) renowned by amazing outlooks not only of the famous Trango Tower. That is also why a lot of trekking groups make a rest day here. But if you go on, you will not regret it at all, because the way to the next camp of Goro II is also very nice with the constant views of the pyramid of Masherbrum and nice glacial formations sticking out of the Baltoro glacier.

Fabulous view from Urdukas

There is a beautiful view directly from the camp of Urdukas, especially early in the morning. The view is of a number of peaks, such as of the famous rock towers – Uli Biaho Tower (6109 m asl), Great Trengo Tower (6286 m asl) and Nameless Tower (6239 m asl).

Thunmo Cathedral

Directly above the glacier towers perpendicular wall of Thunmo Cathedral (5866 m asl), to which there is another nice view directly from Urdukas.

Muztag Tower (7273 m asl)

The path descends from the outlook Urdukas back to the glacier covered by heap of rubble. An interesting view is of the beautifully sharp ridge hiding even the tip of Muztag Tower.

Baltoro glacier

The glacier itself becomes finally interesting and not just its surroundings. Glacial formations also begin to appear – small ice pyramids, lakes, mushrooms (stones on ice „feet“). The path winds every year differently, depending on how the glacier moves.

Masherbrum and Mandu Kangri

One of the most beautiful views during this trek day is of a pair of beautiful peaks – Masherbrum (7 821asl) and Mandu Kangri. After all, the views of Masherbrum accompany the tourists almost all day.

Glacial mushroom

The most interesting formations are glacial mushrooms. You can encounter several of them each year.

Ice pyramids

Ice floes beautify the endless piles of rubble lying on the glacier.

The vast wasteland

The trek is mainly about amazing views of the mountain giants, but the path itself is quite depressing – hours and hours on the endless debris. Here you are only a short distance from the tourist camp of Goro II. Far away on the horizon you can already see the top of Gasherbrum IV.

Impressive views

It's hard to say which mountain on the trek is the nicest. But Masherbrum should certainly be included on the shortlist.

Goro II camp

After about 6.5 hours walk from Urdukas you reach a place called Goro II (4 325m asl.). It takes some time to find a suitable patch for a tent. It is ideal to find a little bit elevated place with a nice view.

The tent

Each expedition occupy different patch in decent distance from other expeditions.

Sunset at Goro II.

Although Goro II. is not so famous for its sunsets as Concordia, there is still an amazing view of Gasherbrum floodlit by golden sunset.
