Gondogoro trek 8: The descent from the pass Gondogoro la along the glacier bearing the same name is quite unpleasant and for trekkers also quite dangerous. The walk along the glacier is more difficult than along Baltoro glacier on the other side of the ridge. There are more cracks and sometimes even guide has trouble with finding the right way. It is possible to have a rest on the way to the camp Dalsangpa (4 120 m asl), in case of an emergency even stay overnight in the camp Hispung (4 675 m asl) lying at the confluence of two glaciers. In good weather you will also see the majestic Masherbrum from the other side and a gigantic ice-fall falling from it.

Descent into the valley Gondogoro

After overcoming the „fatal stairs“ from the pass Gondogoro awaits you another unpleasant passage in the form of an endless traverse through the frozen slope in the direction to the glacier Gondogoro. The valley is bordered by nice peaks including extra pointed Laila peak.

End of the valley Gondogoro

After reaching the glacier you finally can „calmly“ look back. Had it not been for the fixed ropes, the pass would be virtually impassable without climbing equipment.

Before the camp Hispung

After two hours of descent from the pass you get to the confluence of glaciers directly opposite Laila peak, where is the camp Hispung. Here you can spend the night or just hide from the weather and relax.

Cracks in the glacier

From Hispung begins the last dangerous part of the trek – more than three-kilometer long walk along relatively cracked glacier. It is certainly advisable to stay close to the carriers, who know the way even better than the guide and know how to avoid cracks.

Mountain wilderness

Smaller glaciers fall to the valley from all sides. In bad weather looks the landscape depressingly and a little more dangerous than in good weather.

Glacier of Masherbrum

Finally, you approach the huge icefall from Masherbrum. Although it does not seem so, better way will soon be in front of you.

Glacier highway

Finally, you approach the huge glacier highway. Our way turns from here sharply to the left and fortunately leads already above the glacier.

The path along the glacier

The last part of the descent to camp Dalsangpa (4 160m asl.) leads already along relatively good-quality path just above the glacier. But some holes „underground“ are really huge.

Camp Dalsangpa

After days spent in the desolate landscape of mountains, scree and ice is the green camp Dalsangpa laying at a small lake such a balm for the soul.
