You will undertake the way to Acapulco either because you want to see this legendary beach resort, which is currently a little bit past his prime, or want to explore the Pacific coast on the way around Mexico. Four hundred kilometers between Mexico City and Acapulco can be done by express bus running along a good highway in 4.5–5 hours depending on traffic especially in front of Acapulco. There is still something to watch on the way, first at smoking Popocatepetl on the horizon and then to perpetual mountain sceneries up to the ocean. So you will definitely not be bored.

The hills to the south of Mexico City

Buses depart Acapulco from the southern terminal called also Taquena based on the final metro station, which is practically right next to him. If you are staying in Zocalo, so you will not even need to change the trains. This metro line runs almost all the time above the ground, so you can see the suburbs at least at a glimpse. Buses to Acapulco depart at short intervals, so you will definitely not have to wait long.

The journey begins with the views of smoking Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl. It then rises to a small pass at about 3,050 meters above sea level overgrown with pine trees, from where it than descends by 1,500 altitude meters below to big town of Cuernavaca.

The bus then goes through relatively barren landscape of rounded mountains.

Distant peaks

Slightly bigger peaks occasionally peek out on the horizon. The landscape around the road is really very sparsely populated.

Puente Mezcala Solidaridad

The biggest attraction on the road is probably the crossing of the bridge over the river Mezcala – the bridge is 160 meters above the river, which means that it is currently the third highest in Mexico. It is almost one kilometer long. It would be perhaps even more interesting to look at it from the bottom of the river.

Hills with cacti

Gorges

Just five kilometers before the town Axaxacualco is view of a nice gorge. The road leads here in almost 1400 meters above sea level and rivers flowing through this canyon flow into the river Mezcala (we crossed it over the bridge a while ago) lying about 900 vertical meters below.

After nearly five hours is this quite inspiring journey over and you reach Acapulco. You just need to drive through a huge tunnel and you're at the bus station. Here it is necessary to bargain with local taxi drivers before you get into their car.
