Treviso is an Italian city in the Veneto region and is also the capital of the province of the same name. It lies in the fertile Venetian lowlands, about 30 km north of Venice and 15 km from the river Piave. The historic city has preserved the remains of the walls, two gates and because it lies at the confluence of two rivers, many streets are canals with turquoise-emerald water.

The city on two rivers

The city is located at the confluence of two rivers, Botteniga and Sile. These rivers largely shape the whole character and character of the city. They are the imaginary arteries of the city, in which turquoise-emerald water flows lazily and for a while for a while.

Bridges instead of roads

Thanks to the tangle of canals and the countless riverbeds that cross the city, bridges play a major role. Not only as a means of crossing the road to the other bank, but they are a beautiful view of the flowing river with the scenery of the historic city.

Narrow streets

But you will also find so many typical narrow and winding streets that are so typical of Italian historic city centers. They provide pleasant shade and will delight many photographers.

View from Ponte de Pria

In the north of the city you will find a long promenade pleasantly shading by alley of trees and at the end of this bridge Ponte de Pria, under which the river Botteniga flows into its city in its widest form and flows into the individual canals, which go further into the city.

Statue of a mermaid

On the way along the river canals, you can admire the local architecture and especially the ingenious system of bridges and arches under the buildings where the river flows. There is also a local fish market on the water, which also has this mermaid statue.

On the way along the main canal

The main canal or Cagman Grando is the main artery in Treviso with several crossing bridges, from which there are beautiful views. Like here from the Ponte di San Francesco. On the river you will find several preserved river mill wheels, some still working.

Ponte di San Francesco

The bridges are located low above the river, so you are really close to the water. Lovers of Prosecco and Tiramisu dessert also come to Treviso, because both delicacies have their origins here.

Monuments

The city has a long history, it was inhabited in prehistoric times, in 49 BC the Roman municipality of Tarvisium was established and in 396 the diocese was first mentioned. The historic city has preserved the remains of the walls and two gates. You will also find many churches and temples from the 12th century.

Headquarters of many major companies

But Treviso has retained its good position in history to this day. It is home to several major companies such as the Benetton clothing company, Geox footwear, or the manufacturer of coffee and accessories De'Longhi. So the city is not just a historical open-air museum, but it is still developing and living.
