Just a few tens of kilometers southwest of Prague is the Bohemian Karst Protected Landscape Area, which is a karst area with a romantic and wild landscape furrowed by a number of gorges and canyons. The dominant feature of the area is the deep Berounka canyon and abandoned limestone quarries with a number of caves interconnected by intricate underground passages.

Views over the Alkazar quarry

A very beautiful road leads from Beroun along the Berounka to Serbia. Just behind Beroun, the Berounka River flows through a picturesque canyon and is surrounded on both sides by high rocks, which are a popular place for climbers. The most beautiful view of the Berounka canyon is directly from the rocks above the Alkazar quarry, which is a famous climbing park with hundreds of paths of various difficulty.
