Colorful town in the hills
Pachuca (2400 m asl), the capital of state Hidalgo, is not a frequent tourists destination, because those heading to the north from Mexico City prefer archaeological ruins in Teotihucán or Tula. However, short stop here is really worthwhile. The town is picturesquely situated between the hills and streets with small houses climb almost to their tops. There is a nice Clock tower in the center of town.

If you go along almost any street up, nice views of the whole town abounding with all colors open after a while. If you have more time, you can take a trip to two dominant hills in the town. The higher one is called Santa Apolonia (2637 m asl) and huge statue of Christ stands here – one of the biggest in Mexico. There is a road leading to its top, so you can take a taxi there. On the lower hill (2560 m asl) waves a huge Mexican flag.

You would not guess from the top that The Clock Tower sits on a large plaza and has so much space around.
Cerro San Juan
The highest hill in the area of Pachuca and the best outlook point is Cerro San Juan (2906 m asl). But it is at least a half-day trip to it

Although the town center is tiny, it is relatively picturesque – especially thanks to the views of the surrounding hillsides.
