Luxembourg is the capital of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Like the whole country, Luxembourg with a population of 103,641 is relatively small for the capital. Nevertheless, its economic strength is catching up, because it is an important banking and administrative center. The town is located on a rocky massif above the confluence of the rivers Alzette and Pétrusse, where it overlooks. This complex rugged terrain is overcome by 100 bridges, which are among the most frequented tourist destinations due to their magnificent views of the city.

Central train station

If you arrived in Luxembourg by train, you have the opportunity to see an interesting historic building from 1859, the central train station, which is located 2 km from the city center. The station is occupied daily by up to 80,000 passengers and the station is also connected to the French expressway for TGV trains.

Banking Museum

Further from the station, you will find the Banking Museum, which dominates the city in front of the Adolphe Bridge, which leads across the valley to the historic city center on a rock. The museum building looks more like a picturesque chateau and the clock strikes everyone. Inside you can get acquainted with the development of the modern history of banking and the fact that in Luxembourg they know something about finance when they are one of the richest countries in the EU.

Museum of Modern Art

Luxembourg is a center of art and culture, so there must be a museum of modern art of appropriate quality and size. This museum, full of the Grand Duke Jean Museum of Modern Art, is located just north of the historic city walls. We walked here along a beautiful forest path and a walk from the center through the valley and bridges arrived in about 40 minutes with breaks to enjoy.

A walk along the walls

An old fortification has been preserved around the historic town, after which you can walk and enjoy the view of the valley. Nice views of the historic arch railway bridge or the Neumünster Abbey with the Église Saint-Jean.
