Famous volcanic panorama
Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park in the eastern part of the island of Java offers several relatively simple tours in an amazing volcanic landscape. The most famous of these is the ascent to the Bromo Viewpoint. The view from here of the huge ancient caldera with the gurgling Brom and the monumental Semeru volcano on the horizon are among the biggest attractions Indonesia can offer.
The first view of Bromo
The start of this tour and the main starting point for the entire Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park is at the altitude of the visitor center, located at the end of the road leading from the coastal town of Probolinggo, at an altitude (2,220 m above sea level). The bustling Bromo (2,392 m above sea level) and the older volcano Batok (2,470 m above sea level) can be seen directly from here.
Fertile volcanic soil
At the beginning, the path of this hike leads along a narrow asphalt road on the edge of the mighty caldera of the ancient Tengger volcano. The whole area around the caldera is cultivated, because the local soil bears fruit extremely well.
Sharp walls of the old caldera
The walls of the ancient caldera are very steep and jagged. Some fields are planted directly on these very steep slopes, surprisingly without terraces.
Wonderful volcanic panorama
As soon as you ascend to Bromo Viewpoint number 1, this great view opens up, which is why you have come a long way here.
Under the caldera wall
After a half-hour comfortable journey practically along the plain, you will approach the wall of the caldera and the final ascent to Viewpoint begins
Highland agricultural plain
The road starts to twist and after a while you have a nice view of the plateau agricultural landscape, which you were walking on a while ago. What a difference compared to the volcanic wasteland a hundred meters below.
Panoramic views of the Tengger
After another ten minutes of ascent, the view is even more panoramic. It is nice to have a cloud flow over the lowest point and fall down the valley to the sea. The tourist town with hotels is also in the palm of your hand.
Bromo panoramic
Finally, you are at the viewpoint from where there is the most beautiful view of the entire volcanic panorama. Here you just have to wait a while before the highest mountain of Java – Semeru (3,675 m above sea level) blows away. Bromo stinks all the time.
The walls of the Tengger caldera
The view of Bromo is world-class, but the view of the caldera walls is also worth it. It's just a great view, from where it's not worth rushing away in nice weather.
Detail Broma
From the vantage point you have several options to continue – you can climb to the very top of the caldera and continue along the ridge, or go back to the agricultural plain and walk very close to the volcano Bromo. Both are worth it
