Mexican beach legend
Acapulco – metropolis with million inhabitants on the southern Pacific coast lying between big bay and mountain ridges is one of the world's beach legends. The greatest glory, when Hollywood stars were coming here, has already passed and you can meet here mostly local visitors. After all, a lot of people nowadays prefer more private environment than skyline of 25storey hotels along the beach. However, if you are planning a bigger trip around Mexico, it is not bad to stop here at least for a day or two.
Statue of Siren on the rock
There is nearly eight kilometers long beach in the bay of Acapulco. But its character, however, is quite different in the western and eastern side of the bay. We start at the west end, where is the rock hugged by famous statue of Siren. On the horizon you can see the hotel's skyline of eastern part of the bay framed by mountains.
Fishing boats on the beach Hornos
The western part of the beach Hornos is full of fishing boats and the water has a bit fishy smell. So it is better to wait with swimming and continue to the east.
Fishermen on the beach Hornos
If you are lucky, you can watch the local fishermen during fishing out.
Hornos beach
The eastern part of the beach Hornos is already without fishermen, so it's a little less interesting here, but swimming is much better.
Mexican flag
After nearly two kilometers of uninterrupted beach there is a small rocky reef and gigantic Mexican flag is fluttering nearby on the mast. This place is popular mainly with locals, so it's quite crowded.
Hotel zone
Behind the mast with a Mexican flag starts the hotel zone. We slowly approach quite photogenic rock island Morro.
Isle of El Morro
Isle of El Morro is an ideal destination for swimmers and climbers and makes also nice scenery of the beach.
Rocks on the beach
Directly opposite the Isle of Morro begins Condesa beach with its lazed rocks.
Condesa beach
Right in the middle of the bay there is a beach Condesa, probably the most photogenic part of beaches in Acapulco's bay. The scenery is only spoiled by the surrounding giant hotels.
Icacos beach
The entire southeastern part of the bay is occupied by nearly endless beach Icacos. You will be surprised that it is almost deserted even though it is surrounded by oversized hotels.
Naval base
The very south of the bay is occupied by naval base. The most beautiful views are then from the road leading over mountains to Puerto Marquez, where is definitely nicer atmosphere than here.
