Where to go for volcanoes

This whole small continent is literally full of volcanoes – often still very active. Ideal location for those who want to finally see the flowing lava. In Guatemala, for example, the volcanic lake Atitlan and the active volcano Acatenango await you. In Nicaragua, the volcano Masaya, in Costa Rica Poas or Irazu.

An area where volcanic activity is fading a bit, but it's still worth it. There are really high volcanoes on the border between Bolivia and Chile. In addition, geothermal fields and amazingly colorful lagoons in a desolate landscape without a tree. The most famous places here are the Tatio geysers, Sol de Mańaná fumaroles, the Parinacota volcano or the Verde lagoon below the Licancabur volcano

Indonesia is a promised country for volcano lovers. Here you will find not only beautiful volcanic cones, but also extensive crater lakes. The most famous places include the panorama of the volcanoes Bromo and Semeru, the sulfur crater Ijen, the deadly volcano Merapi or the crater lake on the volcano Rinjani

Hawaiian Islands is the real volcanic exotic. In addition, you will find the highest mountain in the world, if it counts from the seabed where it begins. Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa, super active Kilauea and Halekala crater are the largest volcanic pulls in the Hawaiian Islands

The North Island of New Zealand offers a truly beautiful volcanic landscape – the Mordor landscape in Tongariro National Park, the beautiful Taranaki volcano and a variety of colorful volcanic lakes and geysers such as Waiotapu.

The northwestern United States offers two beautiful volcanic areas – the famous Yellowstone with its colorful lakes, fumaroles and geysers, and then the Cascade Mountains with still active volcanoes such as the largest of them Mount Rainier or the famous volcano st. Helens or Mount Hood

A beautiful volcanic area at the very end of the world, where there is no land connection. You will find dozens of active volcanoes, including the monumental Kluchevskaya. The valley of geysers is also famous here.

It is not for nothing that Iceland is called an island of fire and ice. You will still find a number of active volcanoes such as Hekla, Krafla or Askja. Thermal lakes and geysers are also a matter of course

The only really active volcanic places in Europe can be found in Italy. In Sicily is the famous Etna, right next to the Aeolian Islands with Stromboli or Vulcano, which gave the volcanoes its name. A little further on is the deadly Mount Vesuvius

Japan is not only a land of modern technology, but also home to more than a hundred volcanoes. In addition, many of them are still active. The most famous of these is, of course, the highest and most beautiful mountain in the country, Fuji. Mount Aso has a beautiful crater lake. Sakurajima is again one of the most dangerous

The Canary Islands volcanic mountains in the Atlantic offer a slightly different volcanic experience on each of the islands. The main icon is the highest peak in Spain – Pico de Teide on the island of Tenerife

You will no longer find anything volcanically active in the Bohemian Central Mountains, but the landscape is still volcanically impressive – the former volcanoes tower majestically above the surrounding landscape. Apart from the extinct volcanoes, you will find a number of interesting basalt rock formations in Bohemia

In the middle of France, in the Auvergne region, you will find a large volcanic area – the Massif Central. Today, it is a long-extinct area, like our highlands, but the landscape of jagged volcanic rocks and cones is still very interesting. The highest peak here is the extinct volcano Puy de Sancy (1,886 m above sea level)
