Levada Caldeirão Verde
After one of the most visited levads to the green paradise.
Crowds of tourists are probably not what a nature lover would look for. However, the high number of visitors to this levada is balanced by amazing nature, views of the surrounding mountain walls and lush vegetation. Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?…
Ferns
We start at Casa das Queimadas, a beautiful thatched country house with a small car park. The sooner you come here in the morning, the more likely you are to have comfortable parking. And we immediately dive into the green beauty. The ferns here are really big, sometimes in tree form.
Vegetation
Initially, the path around the levada is wide, but gradually it narrows, sometimes to about 30 cm. There is literally a forest around.
Tunnels
Levels often include tunnels. This is also our case. A flashlight or headlamp is a must. In tunnels, taller people sometimes have more complicated, so watch your head!
Green levada
We walk through a green and wet paradise, it is a feast for the eyes and chips in the cameras (or mobile phones).
Waterfall
Caldeirão Verde waterfall falls from an altitude of 980 m above sea level into a small lake, its height is about 100 m.
Prospects
We continue a little further towards Caldeirão do Inferno. The trees overlook the surrounding walls.
Ribeira Grande
We stop at the magnificent view of the Ribeira Grande valley and return.
