Due to the relatively high altitude of the lake, pastoralists move here for a very short time, during the summer. At other times of the year it is deserted.

You might expect that due to the fact that Lake Sonkol and its surroundings are mentioned in all guides as one of the biggest attractions of Kyrgyzstan, there will be a lot of tourists. Yes, you will meet a few visitors in the camp, but the area is so huge that you just have to walk a few hundred meters in any direction and you immediately feel a complete loneliness disturbed only by herds of animals.
