The famous Omani sandy desert
Wahiba Sands is a large sandy desert in eastern Oman. The best starting point for the desert is the city of Bidiyah, where virtually everyone offers desert trips or overnight stays in desert campsites. We planned only a short stop here, so we went to the village of Al Raka south of the city, from where you can make a trip on the dunes without a guide.
Al Raka
From Bidiyah we go south to the oasis of Al Raka, where there are quite a few palm trees. We continue to the very end of the asphalt road, from where we go for a walk. New buildings are set in the sand dunes, which looks quite interesting.
Dunes with a lone camel
Massive dunes rise on both sides of this valley. We notice a lone camel walking on the tops of the dunes.
Omani public toilets
You will also find them here and, as always, luxuriously clean, free of charge and with a vending machine for drinking water. A big plus when traveling in Oman.
Parked camel
Classic desert picture – camel and dunes, beauty
Construction of a mosque
Practically at the very end of the settlement there is also a new mosque, the question is how many believers come here
The power of nature
Abandoned trees or flowers surrounded by sand – always the breathtaking power of nature
A walk through the desert
From the mosque we climb to the top of the dune and enjoy the desert landscape. The only flaw in the beauty is the garbage blown away really everywhere
View of the oasis
From the dunes there is a nice view of the oasis and a desolate plain on the horizon
Return to civilization
After an hour we are back in civilization
