Tour of Čičman

This distinctive village is known for its ancient and unique folk architecture – painted log cabins. The lower part of the village was therefore declared a monument reserve of folk architecture. The village is also interesting for folk costumes and embroidery with geometric ornamentation. Several houses can be seen and visited in the exhibition and ethnographic exhibition.

In the indoor exhibitions, it is possible to get acquainted with the former difficult life of the locals in the harsh local conditions. The folk costume is made of white canvas and is artistically most remarkable thanks to the embroidery, which excels in its technical perfection, richness of motifs and ornamental and colorful composition.

The village is intensively developing tourism and is a frequent destination for visitors. In winter, visitors have the opportunity to ski in the ski resort Javorinka, in summer the surrounding hiking and biking trails are used. The village has a relatively wide range of accommodation and catering services. In addition to hotels and guesthouses, it is also possible to stay in a chateau or in a local striking building.

Apart from folk embroidery, Čičmany was famous mainly for its oriental house decoration in the form of stylized geometric patterns and ornaments. It is a unique decoration in Central Europe. Originally, the ornaments were very simple, gradually ornaments from Čičman embroidery began to appear on the walls of the lectures. Each pattern has its own unique name.

In addition to the typical wooden buildings, it is possible to see the Baroque church dedicated to the Finding of St. Cross or castle, which is now used as a hotel.
