Road under the mountains on Zakynthos
If you want to explore not only the coast but also the interior of Zakynthos, take the road connecting Lithakia and Katastari. A ride of about 20 kilometers through the foothill villages with beautiful bell towers overlooking both the highest Zakynthos Mountains and endless orchards of olive trees awaits you

The first stop on this road is the interesting monastery of Eleftherotria near the village of Macherado
Monastery garden
The garden in the monastery is small, but very nice. There are also cages with parrots.
Views of the mountains of Zakynthos
All the way south you will have the main mountain ridge with peaks about 700 meters above sea level.

To the north, the most fertile part of the island is overgrown with olives
The bell tower in Pigadakia
Whenever the road passes through the village it becomes very narrow and you will hope that you will not meet an oncoming car. Another stop can be made, for example, in Pigadakia, where there is a nice bell tower and interesting views.
View of Ano Gerakari
From here you can also see a super scenic hill from the village and the church – Yes Gerakari
Kaki Rahix
Pigadakia lies just below the Kaki Rahi hills. Thanks to the antenna on top, it is recognizable from all sides.
Sea view
After arriving in Katastari you can go down to the sea to Alikes or continue further north. In a bend in the road, the popular viewpoint is full of cars, although it's not that great. Neighboring Kefalonia can be seen in the distance
Green mountains on Zakynthos
From the viewpoint there is perhaps a nicer view of the interior than the sea.
