The first liberated house
It is located in northern France (Normandy) on the Caen Canal in the city of Benouville. Under the command of Major John Howard, 5 gliders of the 2nd Light Infantry Battalion sat on June 6, 1944 at about 1 am in the field and pond. Their goal was to occupy this drawbridge. The British decided in a blitzkrieg within 10 minutes, when they killed half the defensive forces. The first liberated house on the western front thus became Gondrée's café, which still functions today and has become a popular place.

Nearby is a parking lot where you can stop and look around and imagine the battle. There is also a museum about this battle. It is also possible to visit Gondrée's café, which became the first liberated house on the Western Front. Unfortunately, the first British soldier died on the same day, who was wounded by a machine gun. Souvenirs can be bought on site.
