Most of the Ukrainian territory is very flat and does not offer many opportunities for hiking. But the western end of Transcarpathian Ukraine (called also Zakarpattia or in Ukrainian Закарпатська область) is completely different. There are several long grassy mountain ranges (polonyna) dominated by the highest mountain of Ukraine – Hoverla (2 061 m asl). The atmosphere is complemented by solitary wooden buildings, herds of cattle grazing on mountain meadows and especially peaceful area almost without any tourists. The main starting points for hikes are Volovec, Kolocava, Ust Corna.
- Svydovets polonyna: Bliznice peak (1 881 m asl)
- Chornohora mountain range: separates Transcarpathia from the rest of Ukraine. There are the highest peaks of the country. The peaks Pietros (2 020 m asl) and Hoverla (2 061 m asl)
- Synevir Lake
- Polonyna Krasna
