- ** Mountain areas **: Spain is generally a very mountainous country, so you can find scenic hills virtually anywhere. However, the most touristy part of the country are the border mountains ** Pyrenees ** (located in France and in the small state of Andorra) with the famous long-distance route G11. Further west is the very beautiful limestone mountains ** Picos de Europa **. Right in the center of the country lies the interesting mountain range ** Sierra de los Gredos **. Right in the south of the country is the highest, but not so dramatic ** Sierra Nevada **. – ** Meseta plateau **: The whole center of the country lies on the Meseta plateau, where you will find practically all important and historical cities and an incredible number of castles and ruins. Distances are great and in summer there is a great heat – ** Coast: ** The most visited tourist part of the country is a virtually endless coast in the eastern part of the peninsula – ** Islands: ** Spain also belongs to ** Canary Islands ** (Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuertaventura, La Palma, La Gomera) located on the shores of Africa and the ** Balearic Islands ** in the Mediterranean (Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza).
