Lakes and Ponds
The largest and most important lakes: With a great overview, the most important lake in the whole of Kyrgyzstan is Issyk-kul (1,608 m above sea level). It is also the deepest (depth is given to 668–702 meters). Thanks to its size of 178km x 60km, it already looks almost like the sea. Not only for nomads, but also for tourists, the beautiful Lake Sonkol (3,017 m above sea level) lies in a picturesque landscape full of herds of horses and cows. Another large lake is Chatyr kol (3,530 m above sea level), which is also the highest of the large Kyrgyz lakes. Lake Teshik-kol is one of the beautiful but lesser-known ones. The beautiful mountain lake Tulpar Köl lies on the way to the top of Pik Lenina. Amazing and little visited is Lake Kel Suu near the Chinese border surrounded by high cliffs
Canyons and valleys
Thanks to its mountainous surface, there are a number of interesting canyons in Kyrgyzstan. Of particular interest are those similar to those in the western United States. Fairytale canyons: the whole set of smaller canyons full of red rocks can be found west of Lake Issyk Kul – these are the Konorchek canyons. On the south side of the lake, it is again the Skazka canyon
