Local food

Low-cost travelers will certainly appreciate the fact that a microwave and an electric kettle are freely available behind the cash registers in every small shop. You can choose from an inexhaustible number of take-away boxes, either cold food (from various types of sushi, through salads and others) or in a warm variant (soups, instant noodles, …). The level of take-away meals is completely different from what we are used to at home. For us, it was a relatively cheap option of how to taste a plethora of different dishes and still enjoy.

Local drinks

All over Japan, you will find vending machines with cold, sometimes hot, drinks in bottles or cans. They are always functional and well stocked. You will not go to the smallest and most remote train station or in the middle of a forest park.
