- Rarotonga is the biggest island of the Cook Islands, although it has approximately 32 km in perimeter. It is also best accessible as there is airport with international connection.
- Aitutaki is approximately 3 times smaller than Rarotonga and is famous for its turquoise lagoon and photogenic landscape mainly thanks to many of its small islets (motu). The island is much less commercialized. You can undertake a day tour here as well.
- Tourists sometimes visit also rocky island ´Atiu, which is a half size of Rarotonga. It is sometimes called as an island of birds and legends. The most famous feature of ´Atiu is deep limestone caves and rock formations.
- Islands in northern group are mostly very low lying atolls close to the equator and are less accessible – not only due to their distance, but also due to the coral reef.
