The Orchon Valley blending with the NP Changaj Nuruu was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2004 and ranked along the Great Lakes Basin in Uvsky Aymag. In the beautiful valley of the Orchon River there are many archaeological remains dating back to the 6th century. The famous Karakorum is inherently connected with the area. The area encompassed by UNESCO consists of a core part that includes both the banks of the Orchon River and the surrounding buffer zone over 14,000 hectares.
