The national symbol of Slovakia, 2494 meters high Kriváň, was a great attraction for me, a beginning mountain enthusiast. But because I prefer to be alone in the mountains, only with my four-legged friend, we chose the beginning of February for the ascent. We made the already quite difficult hike even more difficult and we left the marked route in Vyšná prihyba, we did not go through Veľký žľab and Malý Kriváň, but we climbed right behind our noses directly to the top. The last 500 meters required increased caution when moving and engaging both hands. It was an unforgettable experience for me and I believe that it will be for everyone who follows in our footsteps.

A strenuous journey through the woods

As a starting point for the ascent, we chose Tri Studničky and the green marked route. The journey through the forest and cypress trees, without snowshoes, was more than lively.

The shortest way up

After another hour of brisk walking, we stood under the summit and three hours of ascent awaited us.

Just us, the mountains, the snow and the wind ..

This pulls me into the mountains and forces me to come back. At such moments, I thank the accident that got me up the hill for the first time and allowed me to fall fully and forever into the mountains.

On the left edge of Krivan

Western Tatras and Saarloos Wolfhound in all its beauty. Rastík with four-wheel drive, manages winter climbs with an overview, even though I was worried at the beginning.

Rasty watches what is happening in the Dill Valley

Such views are not offered from the marked route. A short tea break at one of the few places where he could put his backpack with a certain amount of caution.

On the top

View to the northwest. On the left the Western Tatras, on the right in the background, the Red Hills peek out. We didn't meet a living thing during the whole day and the reward for the strenuous ascent was a peak without a single trace and beautiful panoramas.

We don't want to go back. We don't want to go down to civilization. We stand side by side, we feel so free .. so small .. and we are so happy. A few more moments and we say goodbye to the majestic mountain, we have almost five hours of descent.
