Walk through the oases of Hargisa
An interesting short trip in the west end of Skardu is a walk through green oasis along the river Hargisa to its confluence with Indus. Indus is here in early summer wide up to several hundred meters. Immediately behind the green oasis are small sand dunes, so you can extend this walk also here. In addition, you can enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding mountains along the way.
Hargisa
Hargisa flows to Skardu from Deosai plains and thanks to the power plant on lake Satpara brings not only moisture, but also electric current.
Sand dunes in Skardu
There are also sand dunes just above the oasis – they can be remotely reminiscent of those in Nubra valley in Ladakh – small high mountain desert.
Ridges over Indus
When walking along the river you can nicely see five thousand high ridge separating the valley of Indus from the valley of river Shigar.
Inundated oasis
Until the mid-summer has Hargisa a lot of water from melting snow on Deosai plains, so large part of the oasis is flooded at this time.
Mighty Indus in Skardu
Finally, you come to the valley of Indus, which is spilled here to such extent that it looks more like a lake. You get back to Skardu the same way.
