The power of erosion in full glory
At the very southern and bottom end of La Paz is an interesting area of weathered rock towers aptly named Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley). The site itself is relatively small (located on an area of 400×200 meters) and so the visit takes about an hour. However, if you have a free afternoon in La Paz, it is certainly recommended to come here and enjoy the powerful force of nature.
Landscape around Valle de la Luna
The whole area lies on plateau furrowed by small canyons at about 3300 m asl. The surrounding landscape is reminiscent more of the Wild West than neighboring Altiplano.
Rock towers in Moon valley
While walking through Moon valley, you will feel like you were walking through the rock towers sculpted from white clay. Scattered cacti complement the overall atmosphere to the trip.
Force of nature
Indomitable force of nature to survive even in such inhospitable places is visible also here. Tops of the tallest towers are overgrown with cacti and other scanty vegetation.
Bridge over the canyon
The trip circuit leads over a small bridge, from which you can look into the depths of a small canyon.
Above the canyon
A dusty path leads in the canyon. There are no handrails, so be extremely careful when looking into the depths.
Moonscape in full glory
The best views of the whole place are from the highest outlooks, from where you can admire tens and hundreds of weathered towers. Weren´t it for the sidewalk here, it would be really difficult to push through.
