It is July 7, 2017 and today's goal is clear. We have been on the road for three days and we can't wait to visit the first point of our expedition in Norway and that is the fascinating midnight sun on the northernmost point of mainland Europe – Nordkapp.

A long way to Nordkapp

Three days trip from Bohemia to Nordkapp

We've been on the road for three days. We have the ferry route Sassnitz – Trelleborg, camping in Sweden, camping in Finland and now is the time to cross the Norwegian border and fulfill a big dream. The first point of our expedition is Nordkapp. Midnight sun at the northernmost point of mainland Europe. We can actually say that we can only doubt the northernmost point, because the northernmost point is the promontory of Knivskjelodden and, moreover, as I find out from Míra, it is an island and not the mainland. I still think that Nordkapp will still be such a popular tourist destination. Finally we cross the borders of Norway and see the nature, what we dreamed of and why we came here. The road is just a bend, there is really wild nature everywhere and only occasionally a dwarf tree grows or a herd of reindeer runs. The animals really have a lot of freedom here, which I really like. The shores of fjords are decorated with sharp mountain peaks, the undulating landscape with igneous rocks sometimes reminds me more of straight stacks of planks. In a word, it's amazing, and I can't really describe it in words. The journey to Nordkapp is long, but I must say that it is definitely not boring. We didn't leave the E6 road for a long time, so it was a lot of time for me as a co-driver to enjoy the amazing nature. The fuel is slowly but surely running out, so we hit the Shell gas station and we refuel immediately, we were almost hit by a slag, it is the most expensive petrol we refuel for 16.5, -NOK / l! so we pay a total of about 400 Kreuzer and move on. It's early evening and we finally arrive at the box office, where we pay 540 kr and we even park next to the caravan of neighbors from Ústí nad Labem.

Nordkapp

Tour of Nordkapp

Míra is eager to go to the building on Nordkapp and almost won't let me get dressed, because a really strong cold wind is blowing here. In the building in front of us, the entire upper part is glazed. There is the northernmost post office in Europe, there is also a shop, restaurant, a few floors to the country where you will find, for example, a cinema or a cave. In front of the building is a monument from 1878, in the building you can see a stone in the ground with an engraving of a Japanese expedition from 1907. On the right we see sculptures from 1988 created by students from different countries (Tanzania, Brazil, Japan, Thailand, Italy , Soviet Union and USA). You can build your love mound right next door. We haven't forgotten either. Finally we see that famous iron globe! We take a few photos, go through all the places, buy a few souvenirs, send greetings to the family and go to dinner.

Midnight sun on Nordkapp

Two hours after our arrival passed like water and midnight was slowly approaching. People began to pile up at the railings with cameras and sometimes even champagne to celebrate the long journey that led them here. We, too, will finally see the much-coveted view of the midnight sun, which does not set beyond the horizon in the summer months, and therefore there is light throughout the area at night. He can probably imagine the beauty when the waters of the Norwegian Sea, parts of the Atlantic Ocean, the Barents Sea and the Arctic Ocean splash into it beneath you. We watch the sun hide behind the clouds or peek out. It's something beautiful and romantic … It will get worse with sleep. Like most people, we sleep in a car in the parking lot. It is only 6 ° C, but we still fall asleep relatively soon after such a long day.
