The Liechtensteinklamm gorge on the Grossarlbach (a tributary of the Salzach) is one of the longest and deepest accessible alpine gorges. The rocks rise to a height of up to 300 meters. At the same time, according to many, it is also the wildest and most beautiful in Austria.

The beginning of the Lichtensteinklamm gorge

The way to the gorge is easy. South of the town of Sankt Johann im Pongau is a marked turn to a dead end road to the gorge. There are several parking lots in front of her. It closes here at 6 pm and around five o'clock there are not many tourists. From the beginning of the walk, beautiful views into the depths of the gorge await you

Sightseeing route through the Lichtensteinklamm gorge

They walk here on safe bridges with railings, so don't expect adventure like in the Slovak Paradise, but nature is more dramatic here

The narrowest part of the gorge

There follows a section where the walls are really only a short distance from each other, that for the sidewalk the path had to go deep into the rock. Then a few tunnels pass through.

The road can also have a goal and that is a nice waterfall from a side tributary in this gorge

Schleierwasserfall

Schleierwasserfall – Veil Waterfall. There are many such people with the same name in Austria. This one is about 50 meters long and it is a nice end to the entire excursion route through the gorge, which is rightly one of the biggest attractions in this part of Austria.
