Beautiful milky turbid water, breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks, majestic peaks towering directly above the lake. It is not for nothing that Lago di Sorapis is said to be one of the most beautiful and magical lakes in the Alps.

Dolomite Lago di Sorapis

Trek on trail 215

Our trip started in the Austrian village of Sillian, from where we drove less than 35 minutes across the beautiful Lake Missurina to the starting point, ie. parking at Passo Tre Croci. The car park is located next to the abandoned hotel and, given the parking space, it is really worth coming as soon as possible. We set off from the parking lot around half past nine in the morning on road 215. The first part of the road was gravel, pleasantly wide and led through the forest. However, after about half an hour, it was necessary to cross the rubble field and the road began to narrow slightly and climb slightly. After about an hour, the route turned into a more challenging hike with a steeper climb, which was supplemented by several secured sections. The first secured sections were the iron stairs, which helped us to overcome the most difficult elevation in a quite pleasant way. The section, which was reinforced with a wooden bridge, was followed by a narrow footpath secured by a fixed steel rope, which led over an almost perpendicular slope, however, the view of the mine was moderated by bushes. The secured section, including the stairs, was not long, but it can be unpleasant for people suffering from dizziness. One gentleman in front of us retreated and preferred to return in the direction of the parking lot. After another few minutes, we arrived at a crossroads that led either to the Vandelli mountain hut, where you can have a pleasant snack, or directly to the lake. It should be noted that although the journey was more difficult at times, the views were truly breathtaking. In some places it was possible to see the peaks of Tre Cime or Lake Missurina. The lake itself was incredible, we spent a little over 2 hours with it, we went around it all, stopped in the cottage for a drink and went the same way back to the parking lot. We walked everything 12 km, the journey to the lake took a little over 2 hours. We went back for about an hour and a half. Of course it's individual. We walk more slowly, we enjoy the trip, we like to look around and we take a lot of photos. Anyway, it was one of the most beautiful treks we've ever gone. So proper hiking boots, do not be afraid of heights and at least light condition and cheers on Lago di Sorapis :)
